Read previewFormer President Donald Trump will once again go to trial over his sexual abuse of E. Jean Carroll. Here's what to expect from the second Carroll trial:AdvertisementWhy is Trump going to trial again for Carroll's allegations, anyway? He ruled that Trump doesn't get a re-do on Carroll's sexual abuse claims. Kaplan also ruled that it was fine for Carroll's lawyers to say that Trump "raped" Carroll. At a press conference following closing arguments in a different Trump trial, the former president told journalists he would attend the Carroll trial.

A jury found that Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll but not that he raped her. The judge says Trump "raped" Carroll "as many people commonly understand the word 'rape.'" The jury did not, Trump's lawyers trumpeted at the time, find that Trump "raped" Carroll — the central part of her allegations. Caroll's lawsuit alleged that, in the mid-1990s, Trump raped her in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan. Carroll is taking Trump to court — againIn his opinion upholding the jury verdict, Kaplan took issue with the denials that Trump "raped" Carroll.

On Tuesday, lawyers for DA Alvin Bragg said Trump already has everything he's currently entitled to. Trump won't get more from prosecutors until he agrees not to weaponize the materials, the DA said. Under the protective order, Trump will be allowed to view the new discovery material only in the presence of his lawyers. Trump and his company misrepresented Cohen's reimbursement as "legal fees" in company books, the DA alleged last month. Bragg has alleged there were false entries in the records of the Trump Organization and the National Enquirer concerning the hush money payment to Daniels.
A Manhattan grand jury has reportedly voted to hand up an indictment of Donald Trump. The charge is expected to involve a “hush money” payment made to the pornographic film performer known as Stormy Daniels . If Mr. Trump is charged, it seems likely to be for falsifying business records in violation of New York Penal Law 175.10, a Class E felony punishable by up to four years in state prison. The prosecution will probably claim that Mr. Trump falsified the records of the Trump Organization by falsely characterizing $130,000 paid to Ms. Daniels as a “legal fee” to attorney Michael Cohen . Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty in August 2018 and was sentenced to prison by a federal court.
New York Attorney General Letitia James speaks during a press conference regarding former US President Donald Trump and his family's financial fraud case on September 21, 2022 in New York. New York Attorney General Letitia James said Wednesday her office believes it has uncovered federal crimes by former President Donald Trump and others, including bank fraud and lying to financial institutions. James said her office has sent a criminal referral to federal prosecutors in Manhattan and the IRS. "We are aware of the New York Attorney General's referral, and beyond that decline to comment further," a spokesman for the Manhattan federal prosecutors' office told NBC News. Alina Habba, an attorney for Trump, in a statement Wednesday accused James of filing the civil lawsuit to advance her "political agenda."
